Basics of Astrology

Hello friends i am posting the basics of astrology which is useful for any system of astrology i.e Nadi,Krishnamurthy Paddathi system, etc..... After fews days i will post on basic of Numerology .I am learning this divine science from 4years and beforing starting I wish to Pranam  all my Guruji"s who taught me this divine science.

As i have learnt many systems in Astrology such as Vedic astrology,Ashtavargas,Nadi Astrology,Kp Steller Astrology, Agin in nadi there are many types like Bhrigu Nadi,Bhrigu Nandi Nadi,Saptarishi Nadi,Meena Nadi etc.... but Nadi Astrology is most accurate one because we can predict the event accurately when compared with other systems. I learnt Chaldean and Pythagarus numerology and i combined the principles of astrology with numerology and i learnt Graphology and Scientific Vastu like Aura scanning,gem therepy,crystal therepy ,finding Geopatic stress by using Cosmic E-scanner 

The disadvantage of vedic astrology is that for predicting the event we should see many charts and time consuming process.

Zodiac:

The broad belt of about 16-degree extending 8-degree on either side of the ecliptic, in which all the planets revolve, is known as Zodiac .This 16 degrees wide and 360 degree elliptical band in the heavens is divided into 12 equal parts or imaginary compartments of 30 degree each. They are called the signs of zodiac. Each sign is named after a prominent constellation situated in it. There are 27 Nakshatras or constellations of 13 degree 20 minutes each located in each sign. 

Our universe has millions & millions of living & nonliving things. In Astrology we have 12 Planets, 12 Signs & 12 Houses or in all 36 “tools” which can be used to signify everything in this universe. Astrology is a science of symbols & similarities. This principle of Astrology is to be understood in detail to know how the significations of Planets, Signs & Houses are arrived at.

HOUSES
First House —   One’s happiness, age, caste, health, proportion of different parts of the, appearance, complexion, nature, spots in the body and the person asking the question.

Second house — wealth, precious stone, pearls, mineral, apparel, roads, money of the querist or the native , his loss or gain, family, eyes and speech.

Third house —   younger sister or brother, those who perform menial work, ear, courage, short travel, communication, short travel.

Fourth house — tracts of land, tracts abounding in vegetation, special medicines, treasure troves and crevices, termination and conclusion of every undertaking, land, mother, property, vehicle.

Fifth house — pregnancy, issue, spells and incantations, mantra, sadhana, worship of deities, sacred hymns, discourses, learning’s, intelligence, arbitration, competition, lottery, gambling speculation, love affairs, dharm.

Sixth house —  fear from thieves, enemies, illness, fighting, donkey, camel, diabolical deeds, maternal uncle, fear and obstruction, servants and subordinates, phenomenal magic and superstition, litigation, illness.

Seventh house  — trade, transactions, thief, business partner, long journey, spouse, tenant, litigation, disputes with others, going out and coming back.

Eighth house —fear from enemies, imprisonment, disease and clandestine deeds, lost property, evil deeds, crossing of river, wayside sufferings, difficulties of journey impenetrable tracts, death, corruption, insurance, dowry, unearned income

Ninth house — lakes, wells, tanks, water reservoirs, places of worship, deities, mathematics, vows (penance) pilgrimage, foreign travelling, teacher, preacher, gaurdian, father, religion.

Tenth house — authority, government, meritorious deeds, position, virtue, essential things, promotion, judges, rainfall and celestial phenomena, employer, master, superior, father.

Eleventh house — elephant, horse rides, cloths, gain of wealth, gold, staple food desires and their fulfillment, acquisition of wealth, all gains.

Twelfth house — sorrow and sins, impediments, disputes, rape, sleep, bed pleasure, foreign settlement and foreign travel, confinement, jail, institutional expenditure, black mailing, renunciation, charitable expense.

SIGNIFICATORS OF HOUSES :

Planets are significators of Houses and are tabulated below:

Marak Houses — Marak houses are death inflicting houses. They act as death inflicting houses during the death only & not in the rest of the life. They are 2nd & the 7th houses.

Badhak houses — Badhak houses are as follows :

1) if the ascendant is movable i.e. any of the 1,4,7,10 sign is in the ascendant then the badhak house is the 11th house.

2) if the ascendant is fixed i.e. any of the 2,5,8,11 sign is in the ascendant then the badhak house is the 9th house.

3) however, if the ascendant is common i.e. any of the 3,6,9,12 sign is in the ascendant then the badhak house is the 7th house.

Badhak houses as they are classified by their name appear to give obstacles in the lifetime of the native. On the contrary they act as death inflicting planets at the time of death only.

Quadrant (Kendra) — 1,4,7,10 Houses are called Quadrants or Kendras.

Trine (trikon)— 5,9 houses are called trines or trikonas. since 9th is 5th from 5th , ascendant is 5th from 9th. Ascendant is also considered a trine. Therefore ascendant is trine as well as a quadrant.

Penphara — 2,5,8,11 houses are called penphras.

Cadent (apoklim) — 3,6,9,12 houses are called cadent or apoklim houses. 

Upachaya houses — 3,6,10,11 houses are called upachaya houses. in the periods of these planets  status of a native is expected to be elevated. They are stronger in the same order 3>6>10>11.

PLANETS:                                                                          

Venus is very beautiful therefore it signifies luxuries, beauty, comforts etc.

Jupiter is the biggest  of all the planets therefore it signifies respected people e.g. teacher, preacher, saints, rishis, elders of the society.

Saturn is farthest planet known to the mankind up to few centuries ago. Since it is cold, slow & the farthest it signifies old, outcast etc.

Rahu & ketu eclipse even the strongest luminary & do not posses any body. They are shadowy planets therefore they signify disguised objects, outcasts and ideas which do not fit in social norms.

SUN:

 Sun is Significator of father (leading member of family), Prime Minister ( leader of the cabinet), King (ruler or father of nation),President ( head of country) , Chief Minister (leading member of state assembly or having control over) etc. This is because all the planets have taken birth from the Sun or it is the parent of the entire solar system & life is impossible on earth without Sun. Similarly wheat (prime crop), heart (prime organ in circulatory system) etc. are signified in this manner.

General          : king, father, captain, command, boldness, brilliance, health, happiness, hope, political, power, dignity, personality, soul, elevation, ambition, fame.

Direction         :   East                                                              

Parts of body  :   Heart, head, brain, bone, right eye, mouth, spleen,throat, lungs.

Disease           :  Heart trouble, headache, weak eye sight, baldness,low blood pressure, sun stroke,scorches,     sharp fever.

Products         : Gold, copper, ruby, wheat, jiggery, liquids with pungent taste, juice, orange, fruits,  coconut,  almonds, chilies.

Others             : Asafetida, cardamoms, pepper, lavender, aromatic      herbs, saffron, medicinal herbs, lion, horse, all singing birds.
MOON:

Moon is siginificator of mother, emotions, liquids, all liquids etc. because it transfers sunlit to Earth, is cool  & attracts liquids (effects of Moon on Sea & Oceans). It is considered queen of the solar system.

General           :   Mother, mind milk, mental peace, public life, holding high position, family life, water,       impregnation, conception, birth of child, infant stage, animal instincts, union.

Direction         :   North West

Parts of body  :   Blood, stomach, and breast of ladies, menses in ladies.

Disease           :   Watery diseases, Cold & fever, cold cough, throat trouble, dysentery, vomiting, hydroceles, eye disease, lunacy, hysteria, epilepsy, intestines worms, tumors, gastric troubles.

Others             :   drops, beri beri, colic pains, peritonitis, uremia, asthma, bronchitis, varicose veins, scrofula, cancer.

Products         :   oranges, melons, cucumber, palm, ghee, butter, curd, milk, cow, sugar, sugarcane, betel leave, silver, acquit, cooked food, salt, rice, cream, fruit juice, pearl.
MARS:                                                                

Mars is the commander – in-chief. It signifies aggressiveness, soldier, blood, arms etc. because it is red in colour. It is a fiery and masculine planet. It signifies energy, both constructive and destructive.

General           :   Brother, energy, strength, practical nature, obstinate, landed property, accident, operation, wounds, cuts, bleeding, earthquake, military operations.

Direction         :   South.

Parts of body  : Ear, nose, forehead, sinewsfibre, muscular  tissues, kidney, gall bladder, prostate glands, uterus, colon, external sex organs, sense of taste, rectum, testicles and bone marrow.

Disease         : Fever, smallpox, chickenpox, measles, burns, wounds, tumor, eruptions, ENT high blood pressure, bleeding, hernia, fistula, carbuncles, brain fever, deformity.

Products        : Iron and steel, copper, coral, red woolen shawl, sulphur, shellac, Ginger, garlic coriander, thorny   plants, walnut, cashewnut, groundnut, and betelnut.

Others             :   Liquids, chemicals, brandy, whisky, coffee, tea, tobacco, hemp tiger, hunting dogs, wolf.

MERCURY:

Mercury is very small & always remains close to the Sun (father) therefore it is considered as “Prince” in the planetary cabinet & signifies students, youngsters, dependents, education, intellect etc.”

Mercury rules over the solar plexus and central nervous system. It represents green colour. It is responsible for retentive memory. It makes one witty, talkative and learned. It is a planet of oration and speech. It also signify astrologers, astronomers, engineers and mathematicians.

General          : Intelligence, quickgrasp, retentive memory, logician, occult science, talkative, north direction, fertile imagination fluent expression, research, reliable,short travels, steadfast, orator, trader.

Direction         :   North.

Parts of body  : Solar plexus and central nervous system, abdomen, tongue, lungs, biles, muscular tissue, skin, arms.

Disease         : Mental weakness, nervous breakdown, impotency, deafness, vocal organs, stammering, asthma, palpitation, and leucoderma.

Products        :   Base Metal, silver, emerald, limestone. Betel leaves, nuts, spinach, and other green vegetable. Green colour pulses.

Others             :   Green colour clothes

JUPITER:

Jupiter is Dev Guru. It is considered to be the teacher who removes the ignorance and darkness and brings wisdom. Strong Jupiter brings providential help at the appropriate time and tides over the difficulties and helps in getting rid of evils.

Jupiter represents social justice, religion and sincerity. It is law abiding, true, honest and dutiful. In older days physician used to administer the medicine in the Hora ruled by Jupiter. It is a planet of expansion.

General           :   Religion, education, preceptor, occult science, law, respect, honest, prosperity, peace, wealth,pilgrimage, morality, wisdom, Astrology.

Direction         :   North East.                               

Parts of body  : Liver, tumors, circulation of blood in arteries, facts in body, kidney, thighs, feet, right ear.

Disease         : Liver complaints, jaundice, dropsy, flatulence, abscess, cerebral congestion, catarrh, carbuncles, diabetes, vertigo.

Products        : Gold, topaz, platinum, tin, orange, banana, rubber, peepal tree, all yellow colour flowers and vegetables, gram pulses, all sweet flavoured eatables.

Others             :   Ordinary clothes, yellow things, horse, elephants, ox.

VENUS:

Venus is considered as the guru of Asuras. It is treated as goddess of Love and all material comforts especially the comforts of bed. Venus is one eyed. Even some consider Venus as blind.  Venus governs the passion and is chiefly connected with the emotional outlets and character.

It is a female planet. It is prime significator of artistic beauty luxury goods, sex and electronic items. It is the significator of pleasing personality calmness, patient hearing, graceful manners, symmetrical form and refined nature and soft spoken.

General           :   Love affairs, pleasure of bed, wife or husband, family bliss, dress, fine arts, luster in eyes, adulation, indolence, toilets, bed room, dens of prostitute, passions, meats and intoxicating drink, gentle, kind, social, handsome, graceful manners, lover of peace, harmonious,  pleasant, voice.

Direction         :   South East.

Parts of body  :   Chin, cheeks, throat, eyes, generating system, kidney, curly hair.

Disease         : Venereal disease, gonorrhea, syphilis, skin disease,       eczema leprosy, leucoderma, affection in eyes, swelling, anemia, disease of ovaries, mucous disease, complaints due to over indulgence in amusements drinks and eating, irregularity in catatonia.

Products         :   Fruits, fig, pomegranate, gooseberry, cherry, apple,     juicy and tasty fruits finished textiles, silk and rayon, hosiery for ladies, embroidery, tailoring machine, fancy goods, perfumery toilets, photograph, sugar,      chemicals confectionery, cotton, silver, copper,                    glass, mica, sandal wood, rubber, paints, plastic, petrol, milk, coffee, tea.

Others             :   Car, ship, airplanes, dandelion, jasmine, poppy, chestnut, nutmeg.

SATURN:

Saturn is chief governor of  “Longevity”. In Hindu mythology it is Yamagrajam, elder brother of Yam, God of death and lame. By considering it lame Sages want convey the idea that Saturn speed is very slow. Colours allotted to Saturn are black or blue. Saturn is also considered son of Sun. Since it is farthest Planet in Solar system it signifies outcast, old, delay, pessimistic, demoralisation etc.

General          : Delay, deceitful, denial, demoralization,  defects, disappointment, distrust, disharmony, difficulty, dispute, dejection, distaste, despondency, dilute, difference of opinion, plodding, pessimistic, patience, prudence, perseverance, lazy, lethargic, labour, hindrance, inferiority complex slow.

Direction         :   West

Parts of body  :   Teeth, feet, bones, knees, ribs, nails

Disease           :   Paralysis, insanity, limb injury, cancer,      disease, heart pain, rheumatism, consumption.

Products        : Mineral-lead, coal, blue sapphire, and mineore, Potato, topioca, Black pulses, barley, and rye, Mustard oil, crude oil, wine.

Others             :   Black articles, blue indigo, chowrie wool,  leather, hemp, crow, buffalo.

RAHU & KETU:

They are the shadowy planets and they are not substantial heavenly bodies which can be observed in shape or mass like any other planets.

General          :   Love affairs, evil thought, maternal grandfather, ill        health, amputation of the body part, change of residence, dual marriage, outcaste, worms, serpents, mosquitoes, bug, insects, renunciation, Christians, Mohammedan, mud, inventors, astrologer, spies, radio, aerial, navigation,  political.

Direction         :   South- West.

Parts of body  :   Buttock, epidemics, and inflammable gases.

Disease       : Hicough, slowness of action, insanity, intestinal trouble, ulcer, boils, gas trouble, acute pain.

Products         :   Mineral – Iron, gomed, Muli, coconut.

Others             :   Meat, wine, eggs, sacrifice of animals.

Uranus

Chief signification of Uranus is unforseen and unexpected happenings like disintegration, assasinations, rebellions and accidents. Uranus signifies all revolutions, revolutionary ideas or movements.

General           :   assassinations, conspiracies, suicide, dethroning, outlaw, liberation, independence.

Disease           :   miscarriages, psychic problem, incurable diseases.

Products        :   photographs, watches, writings, stadiums, pilgrims,     radio & television broadcast, aeroplane, trains, Vehicles in general, ammunition.

Others             :   dictator, explosion, ganatiocusim, sudden blows, wreckage, strange happenings, political parties.

Neptune:

Neptune is psychic & therefore creates confusions among people. Neptune signifies all wars or wrong steps emerging out of confusions.

General           :   conspiracies, disloyally, embezzlement, illicit undertakings, plots, banishment, detectives, aerial navigation, navies, navigation, sorrow, disorders.

Disease           :   drug edition, diseases of secret parts,  poisoning hypochondriacs, going in coma.

Products     :   wine, related with water & liquids air conditioners, clubs, life insurance companies, hospitals.

Others             :   persons of mysterious origin, voyages, telepathy, secret movements of any kind.

Pluto:

Group activity for accomplishment of some objective is signified by Pluto e.g. revolutions, Dacoity, General massacre. Mars is a soldier & can kill, whereas Pluto believes in mass killings.  Therefore mass destruction emerging out of earthquakes, cyclones, atomic explosions etc. are also signified by Pluto.

General          : global wars, earthquakes, mass tragedies, racketeers, general massacres, mass calamities, revolutionary upheavals, nuclear energy, dictators, bandits, leaders of gang, surgeons, assassinations, assures, mass rape, astronauts, lockouts, morgue, coffin, funerals.

Disease           :   sexual diseases.

Products        : atomic bombs and other nuclear weapons, atomic energy, cosmic source of energy, space ships

Others             :   vulgarities, moralityrate, matters connected with dead, slaughterhouses gallous, betrayal.

PLANETS AS SIGNIFICATORS:

The planets are Significators (Karaks) for certain relations and things.

Sun                     :        father, profession and vocation

Moon                   :        mind, mother

Mars                    :        brothers and sisters (co-borns)

Mercury               :        power of speech, eloquence, education, learning and kins (maternal)

Jupiter                 :        wealth, progeny, children, elders, gains, elder brother and sister, education etc.

Venus                  :        spouse (wife), vehicle, luxury items etc.

Saturn                  :        longevity, servants, service etc.

Lordship of the Planets:

 All the planets are lords of Signs except Rahu & Ketu. All the Planets except Sun, Moon, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are lords of two Signs. Sign in this context is popularly called House. It would be confusing here for amateurs. One House of the Planets other than Sun, Moon, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto is called the Mooltrikone House and the other one simply the own House. Planet is considered to be more strong in its Mooltrikone Sign. They are as follows:

Aspects:

A planet is expected to give results of its position & lordships. In addition to these a planet also affect other planets & Houses through Aspects. Aspects in Hindu Astrology means “Drishti” or looking at. The effect of Aspects is nearly equal to that of placement of a Planet in a Horoscope in a particular House. All the Planets aspect from Sign to Sign. All the planets Aspect various Signs from their Natal position in a Natal horoscope & in Transits. Following are the aspects of different planets, which are practical.

From the table above it is clear that all planets except Rahu & Ketu aspect the 7th Sign or at 180 degrees.  Jupiter, Saturn & Ketu have two additional aspects. 7th aspect for Rahu & Ketu has not been considered since both are always in the 7th Sign to each other.  

Note: A Planet aspects the whole Sign where its Aspect is allowed according to the above table. The degree of the Planet in the Sign it is placed is immaterial. If it is at 1 deg. Or 29 deg. or 15 deg. in a Sign it is considered to aspect the Signs completely without any difference in the power of the aspect to desired Sign.  

Natural malefic : Natural malefic planets are rahu, ketu, saturn, mars, uranus, neptune & pluto.

Natural benefic :  Natural benefic planets are Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Moon & sun. Moon is always a benefic while decreasing & increasing. It should be considered a benefic during new moon, “amavasya” also. Similarly there should not be any confusion about mercury. it is also a benefic. Sun should also be considered a benefic since it signifies medicine, government & father etc.

Separative Planets : Sun, Saturn, Rahu & Ketu signify separative tendencies.   

Natural strength : Rahu, Ketu, Saturn & Mars are strong planets. They signify the events predominantly in their dasa periods  & transits. 
Conjunctions : all the planets are supposed to be “conjunct” if they are in the same sign. if there are more than one planet in a sign then all the planets should be considered conjunct to each other. if a planet is at 1° in a sign & the other one at 29° should be considered conjunct to each other whereas if a planet is at 29° in a sign & another one is at 1° in the immediate next sign then both the planets should not be considered conjunct. for example moon is at 29° Leo & mars are 1° Virgo. both of them shall not be considered conjunct although both are just 2° apart . on the other hand if both are in Leo at 1° & other one at 29° both should be considered conjunct to each other although they are 28° away from each other. Rahu & Ketu extend their influence in the next sign up to 7°.

Planets conjunct to each other influence each other as two friends or enemies gathered in same place.

Relationship of Planets Houses and Signs
After understanding the characteristics of Planets Signs & Houses let us try to understand the relationship of Planets, Houses & Signs with each other. To understand this let us take an example.

Example : Native Born on 7 June 1950 at 22:30 Hrs. Delhi.

In the Example Horoscope the position of Planets in various Houses are as follows:

Conjunctions:

Planets in one Sign are conjuct with each other. Therefore in the Example Horoscope  following Planets are  conjuct with each other or following conjunctions are there in the Example Horoscope.

Jupiter - Moon are in conjunction being in one Sign i.e. Aquarius. Venus- Mercury are also in conjunction being in Aries. Neptune - Mars, Neptune- Ketu &Ketu - Mars conjunctions is there in Virgo. In other words Neptune - Mars - Ketu conjunction is there in Virgo.

Note : In Indian Astrology two Planets are said to be in conjunction when they are in the same Sign. Therefore the conjunction is also to be seen in Ascendant Chart only. 

Aspects:

All the Planets aspect Sign to Sign. Planets Aspect each other in the following way explained in  Example Horoscope.

Moon & Jupiter aspect Saturn. Saturn aspect Moon & Jupiter. In other words there is mutual aspect between Jupiter & Saturn & also Saturn & Moon. All these have 7th aspect on each other.

Similarly Neptune - Mars aspect Rahu whereas Rahu does not aspect Neptune - Mars Since it does not have 7th aspect.

Similarly Planets Aspect Houses in the following manner.

•     Sun aspects 11th House by 7th aspect.

•     Moon aspects 8th House by 7th aspect.

•     Mars aspects 12th, 3rd  & 4th House by 4th, 7th & 8th aspect respectively.

•     Rahu aspects 7th & the 11th House by 5th & 11th aspect.

•     Jupiter aspects 6th, 8th & 10th House by 5th 7th & 9th aspect respectively.

•     Saturn aspects 10th, 2nd & 5th House by 3rd, 7th & 10th aspect respectively.

•     Mercury aspects the 10th House by 7th aspect.

•     Ketu aspects 1st House & 5th House by 5th & 9th aspect respectively.

•     Venus aspects the 10th House only since it also has the 7th aspect only.

Similarly, Uranus aspects 12th House, Neptune 3rd & Pluto 1st House by their 7th aspects.

Note: Planets aspect from sign to Sign.  This implies that the aspects have to be seen in Ascendant Horoscope only.

Lordships:

Lordships of planets in the Example Horoscope are as follows:

Motion and velocity of Planets

Motion of planets whether forward or retrograde and their velocity can be judged from the horoscope. in this context we can classify planets into two groups: inner planets and outer planets.

Inner Planets:— Inner Planets Mercury and Venus can elongate upto 29° and 47° from the Sun respectively. When they are less than 12° and 9° apart from Sun they remain combust. When they are between Sun and Earth they are in retrograde motion as explained in Chapter of Astronomy. When they are on the  other side of the Sun as observed from Earth they appear to  move at very high forward velocity. These phenomenon can not be judged from looking at the Horoscope. Ephemeris have to be referred to understand it.

Outer Planets:—  Motion of Outer Planets and their velocity can be judged from the Horoscope unlikely the inner ones. When Outer Planets Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are near the Sun they appear to  move at high forward velocity . When Sun goes further away from the Planets their speed appears to reduce.  When they elongate 120° - 150° appox. From Sun they prepare to stand still. In between these degrees they start moving in retrograde motion.  Retrograde motion is at the peak when they are in opposition from the Sun or 180° apart. When Sun moves further they appear to move slower in retrograde motion and in between 240° - 270° they start moving in forward motion again. After this change in direction of Motion they appear to accelerate again till Sun catches them again and combusts them.

In other words, in a Horoscope when outer Planets are in conjunction to Sun or near them they appear to move at high forward velocity. The speed of Planets appear to reduce when Planet are further away.  When these Planets are at 5th or 9th House from Sun they are nearly stationary. In these Houses they start moving in retrograde motion. In 6, 7, 8  Houses from Sun they are always moving in retrograde motion. However their speed in retrograde motion is maximum in the 7th House from Sun.
